Waylon Renecke Signs First Pro Deal with Norwich
South African youngster Waylon Renecke is England-bound after signing his first professional contract with Norwich City.
The 17-year-old centre-back, who represented South Africa at the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, is officially a member of Norwich’s U-21 squad. Not only will he participate in the upcoming English U-21 Premier League, but he will also get the chance to train alongside the senior team.
In a recent interview with Norwich’s official website, Renecke described the signing as a “big moment for me in my career”, and that he hopes to achieve many more at the club.
“It’s an honour to play and represent the club,” he said. “The faith they’ve put in me, I can’t thank them enough. I’m a centre-back, I’d like to say I’m composed on the ball. I love playing passes, and enjoy reading the play.”
Renecke continued: “It was an honour to play for the country, my family are from there and to have them supporting me was a great feeling. The upcoming season is a big one for me. Hopefully I can push for the Under-21s, establish myself into the squad and move forward.”
